WEEK 1
17/10/22
Following the seminar I joined my second animation rotation, this being the 3D Worlds class. Within this workshop we were asked to create a small 3D world that told a narrative in three frames, this has to be done by using the software, Maya. This is something I feel confident in as the software is very similar to blender, a separate software I know well. Additionally, within the workshop we were shown some of the basics of the software, such as how to create shapes and distort/enlarge/change them.
19/10/22
Following the workshop on Monday I spent both Tuesday and Wednesday creating the 3D world, I chose to create a house on a floating island surrounded by tree’s rocks and nature. I will however create a narrative from this in the coming sections. Again within the workshop today this is what o worked on; my teacher also showed us more about the software such as features to do with lighting, rendering and pixel counts.
WEEK 2
21/10/22
Again today we learnt more about the software Maya and its features within the workshop, alongside working on my own project to meet the deadline. After the workshop was PinkFlea in which I talked to a third year student who specialises in 3D animating and her experience within the industry. 3D animation may be something I wish to take further into second year to specialise in.
FINAL WEEK
21/10/22 – 3D Model Presentation
On the last day of the 3D modelling rotation, we were asked to create a presentation to which we would show both the class and our teachers. To do this I created a PowerPoint that conveyed my research from other 3D models, reference photos, media inspiration, the process of the 3D model creation, the end final product and the 3-image narrative. I will link this presentation to this blog post.
I got a great deal of positive feedback from both the teachers, 3rd year staff and class, including how they enjoyed the setting creation, narrative components and colour schemes. However, the constructive criticism was that I needed to change 1 shot to make a certain part of the narrative much clearer. This was the shot of the character in which it felt too similar to other shots and needed a more diverse image that showed different types of framing and angling that can be used in film. This was changed after my presentation to which I corrected the shot from a wide medium shot to a close up of the character.
Overall, this was the rotation that I enjoyed the most and felt put most work into due to this – this is something I will take into consideration when choosing my animation pathway for 2nd year.
